A recent requirement has come in that requires me to have a very recent version of our instance to develop from.
Based on this the easiest way to get a development instance harmonized with the production instance is to raise a clone request.
This is a fairly easy process and can be achieved from within a ServiceNow production environment, simply browse to System Clone > Request Clone and then select a target instance, in my case this was development.
You can then schedule a start date and time and also chose options that relate to excluding log data etc.
Please note the role clone_admin or admin will be required to request a clone.
I chose the option of cloning from the standby database.
Once the clone was complete I did run into the issue of emails not sending, the reason was the following system properties need to be true:
